In May, I had the opportunity to experience teaching art in an alternative placement. I had the honour of conducting this placement in the Children's Ark School in University Regional Hospital, Limerick with two of my classmates. This allowed each of us to experience team teaching in a unique situation. The hospital was an ever-changing environment. Each day, new students arrived and previous students were discharged. There were no two students who required the same needs. Our students ranged from age 4 to 14 years. Therefore, differentiation was crucial for each of our lessons. We had to constantly think on our feet as well adhere to the hospital policies of confidentiality and health and safety.
Below is a short video, exploring our experiences with the staff and students of the Children's Ark School. |
